Encouraging Comdisco's portfolio members to network with one another was a primary goal for the Comdisco Ventures website. Comdisco Ventures held a multi-million dollar portfolio of companies, but could enhance this investment if those companies could be encouraged to help one another. With this in mind, we met with Comdisco Ventures, profiled their typical users, and determined how to offer them useful information for networking purposes, by means of a private extranet. Through this extranet, users could not only log on and maintain their own accounts, but also search the portfolio database for other companies in specific fields, and use the information to form strategic alliances and cross-promotion opportunities.
